When Two Worlds Collide

I have reframed my idea of survivorship. It is no longer a heavy weight but a badge of honor. It is not a collision but a melding, a melding of my past and my present and my hopes and goals for the future.

This episode of The Burn Podcast features my essay “When Two Worlds Collide” from Wildfire Magazine’s 2023 “Five Years & Counting” issue. My piece is about transforming into an early stage ally and advocate serving the metastatic breast cancer community. April and I discuss the importance of early stage allyship, MBC advocate Lisa Laudico’s impact on Infinite Strength, and lessons learned 5+ years out from a cancer diagnosis. We also discuss self-care while working in cancer, and advice for those starting businesses in the advocacy space. Take a listen!

The Burn Podcast

Each week, April Stearns and the writers of Wildfire Magazine share their experiences of being diagnosed with breast cancer under 50. The Burn is about telling cancer stories like you’ve never read - or heard - before. We go way deeper than the medical facts to the transformation of survivorship, and in the process, we talk about the healing power of writing. Whether you’ve been diagnosed with cancer or not, you'll be inspired to write the stories in you that need to be shared. Come for the stories, stay to discover how to write your way back to yourself (each episode includes a special writing prompt). A new episode is released each Wednesday.
